The transmission bell house must be carefully separated from the locomotive through removing the joining bolts.

Being a heavy device, the device can be carried out of car using the cylinder head of hoist mechanism. Slowly adjust the hoist as to carefully lift the device. After it is out of swing range, the motor can now be lowered to a working height. By this point the mechanic must have a manual handy for the inspection.

The first part to check is the sweeping fluids from the plug. The rubber around the harmonic balancer is usually quite exposed to wear and tear.
